The most effective way to clean curtains is to carry
out the work on-site in the room, this avoids taking
the room out of service.
We use a purpose built Ultimate PB111 Dry Cleaning
Unit which consists of a solution Tank, a 40 psi pump,
an inline heat exchanger, a vacuum motor and a recovery
tank. The solution tank is filled with a white spirit
based cleaning solution which contains emulsifiers,
deodorisers and optical brighteners, there are fed via
a pump through the heat exchanger which brings the solution
up to operating temperature, but ensures that the solution
in the tank stays at room temperature. The heater solution
is then transported to the cleaning head.
This is a hand held device which, by way of a control
valve, allows the cleaning solution to be sprayed on
to the material to be cleaned at a sufficient pressure
to make sure the solutions penetrates the fabric. Soil
in the fabric is held in suspension in the solution
which is then sucked out of the fabric through an aperture
in the cleaning head and back into the holding tank
in the cleaning machine.
The recovered solution can, when the holding tank is
full, be emptied into a container to be transported
off the site and be disposed of.
An exhaust hose is fitted to the cleaning machine so
that any fumes can be vented outside and thus reducing
the amount of vapour in the air.
Particular individual stains may require an additional
appropriate spot cleaner to be applied to them prior
to the cleaning in order to facilitate their removal.
Normal drying times for this type of cleaning are between
30 minutes and one hour depending on the fabric weight
of the curtains being cleaned.
Providing it is possible to open a window in the room
any odour or vapour from the cleaning process will have
dispersed by the time the fabric has dried.
In a typical day we could clean 15 rooms of curtains
or 10 rooms if we were to clean all items of furniture,
carpets and curtains.
